The Latest Updates To Primavera P6

Primavera P6

The Primavera P6 Professional 22.12 is the latest update to the Oracle software that brings various new features. Primavera P6 is the market leader in the project control industry for scheduling and controlling large projects.

Team Academy offers certification courses in Qatar for project managers to get certified. Our Primavera P6 training certification course is one of the most popular ones, with a high enrolment rate. We will discuss this course later, but let’s focus on what we get in the latest Primavera P6 update.

This blog will review the new additions, improvements, and enhancements introduced with Primavera P6 22.12.

View project activities side-by-side

In one of the significant improvements in the latest update, you can now view projects side by side in Primavera P6. To access this option, you have to open the project and select Project Menu, where you will find a new option, ‘Additional Activities View.’ When you choose this option, a new Activities screen will open that will be placed beside the existing Activities screen.

Previously, it was not possible to view the different activities for the same project in the same view. Now you can create different layouts to display different project data.

Check Schedule Report tool

The Check Schedule Report tool is another significant addition to the Primavera P6 22.12 version. The option to access this tool is available in the Tools menu. This is a powerful tool for quantitative analysis on any project. You can use the Check Schedule Report tool to analyze the opened project across several metrics, such as the ones detailed in the DCMA 14 Point Assessment.

You can micro-control the analysis by explicitly deciding which metrics to use for the analysis from the options. You can also set the target percentage for the tool when checking the project. It is a comprehensive tool that can also check for essential aspects of a project, such as negative float and missing relationships.

You can save the generated report as an external HTML file, like the Schedule Log. The report will have comprehensive information on what activities passed the target metrics. The Check Schedule Report tool is excellent for identifying and fixing any issues that can negatively impact the project schedule.

Timeframes for Finish Date Filters

Now you can specify timeframes for Finish Date fields in filters in P6 22.12. While we had the finish date filters in Primavera P6 since version 20.4, it would automatically select the end of the time frame without changing it. And in the older software versions, the logic would work the opposite and choose the beginning of the time frame.

This raised complications when using filters, but now with P6 22.12, you can choose whether to use the start or the end of the time frame. To make a choice, you must define it in the Admin Preferences under the General Tab. If you leave the option unchecked, Primavera P6 will continue to use the end of the timeframe.

Exporting projects as IPMDAR file type

Only you can access this option if you use Primavera P6 with PPM or SQLite database. It is not available while using SQL Server databases.

With the P6 22.12 version, users can export their projects in an IPMDAR file. Note that this option was previously available to only P6 EPPM users but now available with the Primavera P6 Professional version. It is another significant improvement because Integrated Program Management Data Analysis Report or IPMDAR is the project format approved by the US Department of Defense. If you work with the US Department of Defense, this feature will save you much time otherwise spent on creating IPMDAR project files.

More XML data import options

Albeit a minor change, now, with the latest version of Primavera P6, you get more import options when importing XML data from the project. Now you choose what data you exactly want to import into the database. For instance, you can now easily skip the resources already in the database while importing a project.

For this feature, you must use import templates; the program uses the default template by default, but you can edit it or create new templates.

Conclusion

With the latest version of Primavera P6, we get a lot of new additions along with enhancements to several existing features. We hope you have a better idea of what to expect in the latest version of this project schedule and control software.
