Early Childhood Education: Far More Than A Babysitting Service

A child’s early years are a time of incredible development, with their brain absorbing more at this age than at any other stage in their life. It’s also a time during which a child’s understanding of their world sets them up for successful learning in their future.

Every person who interacts with a child during these formative years has a pivotal role to play. So why do some people consider early childhood education to be little more than a babysitting service?

Dispelling the myths of early learning…

The art of communication: Every interaction a child has, improves their communication skills. From learning and verbalising new words, to understanding body language, these earliest experiences are a crucial foundation for the future.

Understanding the world around them: From the moment they can focus, children become ever more curious about what they see. Learning about colours, animals, shapes, objects and exploring all five senses is something that educators will develop in these early years

Early Childhood Education

Instilling a thirst for knowledge and learning: How children learn in these formative years creates a lifelong desire to discover more. Early childhood educators show young children that learning is fun, helping them to explore what interests them in an enjoyable, easy way.

Setting a child up for the future: The educator’s job is to help children interact with others, teach them respect and to consider other people’s feelings; all fantastic social skills.

By far the best way for children to build their abilities is through play. What might look like simply having fun, with animals for instance, is also learning about where they live, what they eat and where they are from. Similarly, activities, such as drawing and colouring, are fun ways to discover shapes, colours and learn dexterity as the child works out how to handle pens, pencils, brushes etc.

At Nido Early School, our highly qualified and skilled staff are passionate about the role they play in setting children up for their future successes. Utilising the Reggio Emilia philosophy ensures a child-centred way of learning that provides the ultimate building blocks from which a child will blossom.
