What Can The Level 6 Trinity Certificate Do For You?

Teacher development comes in many forms, with schools organising CPD workshops, teachers doing action research and teacher training centres offering formal qualifications such as the Diplomas in TESOL offered by Trinity College and Cambridge University ESOL.

However, until now there has not been a globally-accessible qualification for teachers ready to develop what they do in their own classrooms, with a specific focus on the ongoing needs of the learners that they teach every day.

The Trinity Certificate for Practising Teachers (CertPT) fills this gap very effectively. The qualification is designed to help teachers to define and address their students’ specific language and skills needs, so that they can achieve greater results in the settings where they study.

The CertPT courses offered by Language Point help teachers to develop their skills in materials adaptation, design and delivery, through research into principles of task design, communicative and task-based approaches to language learning. There is also a specialist course which develops teachers’ online teaching skills, to address the changing education environment we are facing due to Covid-19.

The Language Point CertPT courses are open to teachers with initial qualifications in TEFL, TESOL or education, and who have over 6 months of classroom experience, or teachers with over 2 years of experience without a recognised certificate in TESOL.

The course is assessed through four written tasks of 750-1000 words, which require teachers to evaluate and adapt published teaching materials (in tasks 1 and 2), create their own teaching resource (in task 3) and reflect on the delivery of a self-designed resource (in task 4). These written pieces are framed in terms of the effectiveness of teaching materials for specific learner groups in the study environment where they are learning.

This makes the qualification relevant to teachers working in many fields within English Language Teaching: International schools, Higher Education institutions, business and professional settings, exam preparation classes, public and private high schools and EAL settings in English-speaking countries.
